David) The Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council has created a task force that would begin revitalization efforts in Chalan Kanoa next month.

The Neighborhood Revitalization Task Force will be composed of regulatory agencies staff who will ensure that rules and regulations are followed even in the innermost parts of the village, said council chair Ramon B. Camacho.

Camacho made the announcement during the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Dandan Children’s Park on Wednesday.

“We need to have this village revitalization thing in our community,” said Camacho, who met with representatives of regulatory agencies that same day.

Camacho, in an interview, said the meeting held at the Department of Public Works conference room was attended by representatives from DPW, the Division of Environmental Quality, Zoning Office, and the Sanitation Office under the Commonwealth Health Center.

Camacho said task force members will be going house to house to educate the village residents about agency regulations and concerns in the area where the Leadership Memorial Courtyard is being built, and a traffic light system construction is in the offing.

“We’re not there to cite them. We want to go there and work with them on how to keep the area clean not just in their residence but also throughout the village. We’re going to approach them in a friendly, professional way,” he told Saipan Tribune.

Camacho disclosed that they received “very positive” feedback from the regulatory agency representatives.

“It’s a perfect combination because if we go there as one and the residents have any concerns, the regulatory agencies are there to answer,” he said.

The council chair noted that while the task force will initially work in Chalan Kanoa, the efforts will be “carried over” to other villages just like how the Neighborhood Watch Task Force initiative spread throughout the community.

“You can see that once this thing develops, it’s going to be a model for the other villages. I’m very excited.”
