Butch Sublemente did not disappoint pre-XTERRA/Tagaman courses race volunteers, who expected him to top last Saturday’s event.
Sublemente reached the finish line of the XTERRA trail race near Gold’s Gym first at the 28:23 mark, just 29 seconds ahead of runner-up Ronald Villafria.
“It was slippery out there, but I had a good run as I am familiar with the course,” said Sublemente, who also ruled the XTERRA/Tagaman Enticer 1 on Jan. 7, making him the favorite for last Saturday’s run race.
Sublemente was among the 32 runners who joined the weekend race that started and ended at the parking lot near Gold’s Gym. From the starting line, runners went towards Morgen’s Bluff, headed up the rough road that serves as the last descent of the XTERRA bike course. They then went up the coral portion of Navy Hill Road and turned right onto the XTERRA run course and headed back to the starting line.
Joining Sublemente and Villafria (29:52), who was also the runner-up in Enticer 1, in the Top 3 was Aric Bickel (30:21).
Father and son Tom and Jack Linden crossed the finish line together, completing the Tagaman course (flat and minus the trail) in 30:05.
Meanwhile, other finishers of the XTERRA trail were Brian Morris ((30:48), Charlie Sendin (31:08), Travis Spaeth ( 36:55), John Auther (38:21), Logan Mister (38:21), Tyce Mister (38:22), Joe Auther (40:27), John Douglas (40:43), Jose Quan (41:48), Alexander Racome (42:31), Dawn Hammermeister (43:19), Jason Tarkong (43:55), Peter Vilaga (47:11), Manny Sitchon (47:15), Roxie Lamar (1:00:27), Ben Babauta (1:00:28), Tamio Nishido (1:00:29), Joshua Berger (1:00:30), Kaisei Toda (1:03:34), Andrew Johnson (1:03:34), James Abuy (1:04:10), Darwin Barbo (1:04:10), June Evangelista (1:04:10), Rommel Bartolo (1:04:10), Edgar Abalos (1:04:29), Kathy and Brad Ruszala (1:04:29), and Roy Adsit (1:12:54).
