Batting on his five-point economic strategy to improve the Northern Mariana, former Gov. Froilan Tenorio officially announced plans to run for the highest seat in the CNMI in the November election under the Reform Party.

“I am officially announcing my candidacy for the office of governor. I intend to run a vigorous campaign and I intend to win,” said the former governor during his bid announcement at the Beach Road pathway yesterday.

He said the announcement was purposely held at the pathway to emphasize the creativity that Commonwealth residents can expect from his administration should he win the race.

He vowed to make the reforms necessary to revitalize the spirit of the people and to develop the CNMI economically, better than his previous term in office.

Mr. Tenorio stressed plans to map out programs and work hand in hand with the legislative branch to improve every aspect of the law which, he said, will benefit thousands of CNMI residents.

He assured that his administration will be pro-business and will welcome foreign investments to bring in additional capital into the tourism industry.

He vowed to eliminate unnecessary business regulations including the three-year limit stay on foreign workers, repeal anti-investment promotions, revitalize tourism promotion and to promote garment exports in new and existing markets.

“You know from the first time, that I keep my promises, I will work with anybody, regardless of party, who shares my respect for our people and my vision for a better Commonwealth,” said Mr. Tenorio.

The former governor also acknowledged the entry of other candidates in the race though he welcomes everybody. Candidates will definitely capitalize on credibility issues.

Mr. Tenorio explained that the entry of Lt. Gov. Jesus R. Sablan to the race will raise questions on credibility, especially after vowing to support primary winner Juan Babauta.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sablan said yesterday that Health Secretary Kevin Villagomez was only one of the several names that cropped up during deliberations on possible running mate for the November election.

Mr. Villagomez confirmed that he was offered but he is carefully considering whether to run for public office or not. (EGA)
