Indians shoot down Chiefs in bowlliards
The Indians prevented the Chiefs from going 3-for-3 in 2006 after taking their Budweiser-Bud Light Bowlliards Tournament bout Monday night at the USSP Club in Garapan.
One reason why the Indians took top honors was the play of Gary Orpiano, who was on fire and led the team with 25 points, to spearhead the Indians to a 61-40 victory.
Reek Rengiil gave the Indians the lead after the first frame after knocking down seven balls, but the Chiefs were still close by as Chris Chlarson pocketed five balls during his turn at the table.
The Indians then padded their lead courtesy of Mei Rengiil and Orpiano, with Mei Rengiil coming close to recording a strike and pocketing nine balls and Orpiano coming through with a strike.
With Rengiil and Orpiano having their way, the Indians held a 10-point lead, 27-17. The Chiefs got six points apiece from Rose Phillips and Marvin Baulechong in the second and third frames.
Orpiano was far from done as she continued to showcase his skills by sinking all balls for another strike in the seventh frame to enable the Indians to balloon their lead to 18 points, 48-30.
The Chiefs tried to pull a late charge, however, they were still overmatched by the Indians in the final three frames.
Mei and Reek Rengiil were strong in support for the Indians with 14 and 11 points, while Ron Chisato also knocked in 11 points.
Baulechong led the Chiefs with 13 points while Chlarson and Phillips finished with 12 and 11 points. Annie Tesiro also had four points.
With the win, members of the Indians went home with Bud Family prizes.
