Matagolai, Camacho on top of Major Division statistics

The 2006 season is still young, but already showcasing their individual skills are slugger Roky Matagolai of the Ol’Aces and hurler Brian Camacho of the Patriots in the Saipan Little League Major Division.

So far, Matagolai has had his way at the plate as the young hitter has connected for five hits in seven at bats for an impressive .714 batting average.

Right behind Matagolai is Diego Camacho of the Twins and Anthony Manalo of the Hustlers as both players have gone 6-for-9 for averages of .667, with Camacho also ranking second in the runs batted in department after driving in six runners.

Not far behind is the second half of the Twins’ one-two punch as Vince Castro holds the No. 4 spot with an average of .636 after pounding away seven hits in 11 chances. He is also tied for the league lead in doubles after connecting for three two baggers.

McGarette Duenas of the Hustlers and Benjamin Hocog of Kagman 1-2-3 are next in line as both youngsters are tied with .625 averages after getting five hits in eight at bats, Duenas has also displayed his power and base running skills as he is tied for second with two triples.

Also making the Top 10 is Johan Villagomez of McDonald’s, who is hitting .600 after going 6-for-10. He is followed by a group of Patriots as Jonakin Deleon Guerrero (.571), Anthony Salas (.556), Jeremy Rabauliman (.556) follow, while Brian Camacho had proven to be not only be a dominating force on the mound but at the plate as well as he tied with Salas and Rabauliman.

Other top hitters with .500 batting averages are Rocco Reyes of Toyota Matrix, Lamarc Iguel of the Tanapag Braves, Ricco Peter of Ol’Aces, and Hanson Phillip of the Hustlers.

Justin Kintol and Rocco Reyes lead the runs department with nine and eight runs. Reyes and J.J. Geter are also tied with Castro for the lead in doubles, while Ignacio Benavente leads the triples department with three. Peter, Charito Kladikm, and Rocco Reyes are tied with Duenas with two.

Kladikm leads the home run category with two, while Richard Dela Cruz and Leroy Regis have one apiece. Dela Cruz also leads the RBI department with seven.

Meanwhile, Brian Camacho has been on a roll on the mound as the Patriots ace has seen action in two games and pitched 11 scoreless innings for a league-best 0.00 earned run average and a 2-0 record.

In second is Dayline Joseph of the Hustlers who has pitched in three games and allowed just two runs in seven innings for a 1.71 ERA. Patriots hurler Timothy Rabago follows with a 2.00 ERA, giving up just two runs in six innings of work, while Peter Tenorio of McDonald’s follows with a 2.50 ERA.

Other top hurlers include Ignacio Benavente of Kagman (3.29), Richard Dela Cruz of Kagman (3.29), Patrick Tenorio of McDonald’s (3.43), Harry Nakamura of Matrix (3.50), Lamarc Iguel of the Braves (3.82), and Kevin Yamada of the Ol’Aces (4.78).

Peter Tenorio and Benavente lead the strikeout department after fanning 26 hitters. Nakamura follows with 24, Yamada with 23, and Brian Camacho with 18.
