A police officer has already confessed to being involved with a group of persons involved in a car insurance scam, Saipan Tribune learned yesterday.

Reliable sources at the Department of Public Safety disclosed that the officer went to the DPS Criminal Investigation Division Wednesday last week where he admitted participation in the scam.

The officer also cooperated with CID detectives in the ongoing investigation, sources said.

The officer reportedly admitted preparing false Traffic Crash Reports for an auto shop owner last year in exchange for $100 to $150.

An auto shop employee would also give the officer $200 for each TCR that he prepares.

Apparently the officer would get a call after the shop owner, an auto shop employee, and an insurance company personnel would have the vehicle registration and drivers licenses of the operators copied and ready for him.

The officer also allegedly admitted to forging the signature of another police officer to cover his tracks.

The insurance employee and the auto shop personnel have already been arrested over the weekend. Their case was sealed on Tuesday.

It was not clear yet whether the officer and the auto shop owner were arrested.

Sources said the court imposed a $100,00 cash bail for the temporary release of the two arrested defendants.
