SCS scores first win at home vs SDA
Saipan Community School hosted Seventh Day Adventist yesterday and scored its first win at home with a 38-16 blowout over the visitors in the girls division of the 2009 Coalition of Private Schools Athletic Association.
Still reeling from a humiliating 8-40 defeat when it visited Grace Christian Academy in its first game of the season last Tuesday, SCS capitalized on its familiarity of the court this time to smother SDA.
Victoria Reyes scored more than half of the other team’s total by firing in 18 points for SCS.
Xuan Jun Lu added eight, while Alina Yoon and Lydin Johnson had four each. Han Mil Oh and Briana Fajardo also chipped in two points each.
The only SCS player who did not score was Rena Son.
Jacinia Richards led SDA with 10 points, Danessa Taylor finished with four, and Erin Belle Mendiola had two.
Completing the lineup this year for SDA are Dana Kim, Ruby Jin, and Shannon Taylor.
SCS will try to sustain its momentum when it hosts Mount Carmel School today starting at 3:30pm.
Another game in the girls division today will be between host GCA and SDA.
SCS was also playing SDA in the boys division later in the afternoon.
Both teams were seeking their first win of the year.
SCS lost its first game against host Saipan International School, 38-23, on Jan. 22.
SCS also dropped its second assignment to GCA, 38-23, on Tuesday Jan 27.
SCS’ boys team is composed of Justin Poon, Eron Constante, Christian Tudela, James Ko, Christopher Lam, Mikey Johnson, and John Kim.
SDA lost to Calvary Christian Academy on Jan. 22 and absorbed a 2-55 defeat when it hosted Saipan International School on Jan. 27.
SDA’s boys roster includes Aamir Shakir, Ammar Shakir, Jong Woo Kim, Jude Sablan, Joey Nish, Tyler Palacios, and Vincent Iba.
Other boys division games still in progress as of press time yesterday were GCA vs. CCA and MCS vs. SIS.
