As other destinations compete for a share in the outbound travel market, the Marianas Visitors Authority continues its efforts to promote the Marianas—Saipan, Tinian, Rota—in its core markets: Japan, Korea, and China.

The MVA’s message is that the Marianas is still the destination of choice for family vacationers, incentive groups, office ladies, active sports enthusiast, health and beauty, wedding and honeymoon, golf and diving.

“The MVA continues to promote our destinations attributes and activities planned throughout the year. These efforts are done in the form of press releases garnishing free editorial publicity for the Marianas,” said Tess Castro, MVA acting managing director.

With efforts to redirect attention to the Marianas in the Japan market, the MVA has tracked a number of publicity placed in various newspapers and magazines with an estimated exposure value of $341,361 during the month of April 2006. This effort resulted in a circulation of over 43 million throughout the Japan market.

Additionally, the MVA also conducted a Marianas Sales Seminar in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka from April 24-26, 2006 updating travel agents of the upcoming events in the Marianas.

In Korea, the MVA has tracked an estimated exposure value of $201,500 with a circulation of over 7 million in free publicity for the month of April.

In mainland China, the MVA received an estimated exposure value of $287,598 in magazines and newspaper publication as well as nationwide coverage in various portal sites.

The MVA, through its offices abroad, constantly release information about the Marianas—Saipan, Tinian, and Rota in order to capitalize on the free publicity opportunities. Each year, MVA receives millions of dollars in publicity and exposure value from the efforts of hosting media familiarization tours and supporting television programs that would expand awareness of the destination.
