The 4th Annual Family Fun Day will not only serve as a day promoting health, physical fitness, and fun, but it will also serve as a fundraiser for the upcoming 6th Micronesian Games.

During a press conference yesterday, Laolao Bay Golf Resort president and chief financial officer Hiroyuki Saito disclosed that proceeds from the golf tournament held as part of the event will be donated to the Micronesian Games Organizing Committee.

As reported earlier, a golf tournament using the Callaway scoring system will also be held beginning with a shotgun start at 10am, with each player paying a $100 fee.

According to MGOC Finance Committee chairman Rex Palacios, about $3,000 to $4,000 is expected to be raised for the Micro Games from the tourney.

“They decided they’re going to contribute the proceeds to the Micro Games, all of it. The golfers pay the $100 fee, and after all expenses such as trophies are taken cared off, then the net proceeds is given to the Micro Games committee.

With that, as well as a the Micronesian Games Cross Country run that will be held as part of the event, Palacios expressed appreciation to Laolao Bay Golf Resort for their contributions.

“Laolao is owned by UMDA, which has already contributed $10,000. With this it adds up. They’re also buying uniforms for various teams in the sports, and it looks like UMDA may be contributing over $20,000 for the Micro Games,” Palacios said.

“We’re very happy hat UMDA is a partner with the sports community in bringing the Micro Games over here and we’re certainly very grateful of the contribution,” Palacios added.

The golfer with the lowest net score in the golf tournament will pocket $300 plus three months of free golf at Laolao Bay Golf Resort.

The Top 3 players with the lowest gross scores will also win prizes, with first place earning $300 plus three months of free golf, second place winning $200 and two months of free golf, and third place winning $100 and a month of free golf.

Meanwhile, the run will begin at 7:30am at the resort’s west course with a fee of $10.

The day will also feature an on course 6am walkathon organized by the Commonwealth Diabetes Coalition, a carnival beginning at 9am at The Range, which will feature kite flying, nature ride, as well as other games.

Organizers of the event stressed that the games aside from the golf tournament are arranged for family members of the golfers, giving them an opportunity to see the scenic course as well as have fun while the golfers are busy competing.

The 4th Annual Family Fun Day is sponsored by Joeten Charitable Foundation, UMDA, SaipanCell Communications, and Pacific Trading Co., exclusive distributor of Pepsi and Miller Lite on Saipan.
