Top officials of the Baltimore-based Cordish Company are visiting the CNMI next week for a full presentation of their $200-million casino and golf project on Tinian, Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez disclosed yesterday.

In an interview with the Saipan Tribune, Villagomez said Cordish Company is very much on top of its casino and golf course project and its officials are coming to present what they plan to do.

Villagomez said he met the casino developers during his trip in Washington D.C., where he also attended the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force meeting and spent time working with the Department of the Interior and Environmental Protection Agency.

“I managed to meet with them and see the progress that they have. And I am proud to report that there is a lot of interest [in the Tinian casino industry],” he pointed out.

Villagomez noted that Cordish is no longer in the planning stage, but is actually now in the implementation stage.

“I’m glad to know that there are those who are taking the industry seriously,” he said.

Cordish is the same company with whom the administration signed a memorandum of agreement last month.

Cordish Company was the second casino to sign an MOA with the Fitial-Villagomez administration. The first was Marianas Resort Development Co. Inc., which already broke ground to start construction of a $170-million casino and golf course project on Tinian.

Under the casino law, Tinian can issue up to five casino licenses. All five slots are reportedly essentially taken now. At present, only one operator has the license, Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino.
