New CNMI Youth Congress speaker eager to get to work
The speaker of the newly inducted CNMI Youth Congress has his plans all set for his one-year term.
In a brief interview shortly after his election Saturday, Matthew O. Deleon Guerrero said he planned to learn—and do—as much as he can during his second year as Mount Carmel School’s representative to the Youth Congress.
On top of his agenda is raising funds for education, he said. Old legislation passed by previous youth lawmakers will also be reviewed for update or implementation.
“I’m excited. We plan on making Youth Congress more relevant to the community,” Deleon Guerrero said.
He is one of 9th CNMI Youth Congress members who were sworn into office last Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006. Eight of the youth senators served in the 8th Youth Congress.
Besides Deleon Guerrero, the newly elected officers were Edwin Diaz, vice speaker; Joseph K. Leong-Aguon, floor leader; and Lyrard B. Tenorio, legislative secretary. They are all from Northern Marianas College.
The 9th Youth Congress is also composed of Genesis Ranjo from Calvary Christian Academy, Matthew Kabua Blanco from Grace Christian Academy, Anita Hofschneider from Marianas Baptist Academy, Rachel Parungao Reyes from Marianas High School, Seung Hwan Oh from Northern Marianas Academy, Erinelle Barcinas from Rota High School, Henry Chan from Saipan International High School, Dwane Kaipat Davis from Saipan Southern High School, Tracy Babauta from Kagman High School, Joseph M. Hocog from Tinian Jr./Sr. High School.

Nuique from Precinct II; Alana Mae Leon Guerrero, Naomi C. Sablan, and Lupe Marie Kaipat from Precinct III; Naomi DLG. Benjamin from Precinct IV; Nikita P.
