The NMI Crime Stoppers Program is offering up to $1,000 cash reward to anyone who can provide information that will lead to the arrest of the person or persons who stole a length of copper wire at the Commonwealth Health Center last Monday.

Crime Stoppers coordinator Sgt. Thomas A. Blas Jr. encourages anyone with information on the latest copper wire theft case to call its tips line at 234-7272.

Tipsters are also urged to contact the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigation Bureau at 664-9045, said Blas, who is also the acting DPS spokesman.

Blas said the theft, which was reported to DPS Monday at 8:03am, happened at CHC’s Bureau of Environmental Health Office in Navy Hill.

He said preliminary investigation conducted by Patrol Officer Melissa Bauleong showed that Bureau employees noticed that there was no light on when they arrived at the office.

Upon inspection of the building, the employees observed that the drop line from the power pole to their weather head was missing.

They then discovered that about 30 to 50 feet of the drop line was cut and taken by the suspect or suspects.

Last month DPS reported a rise in copper wire thefts on Saipan after receiving several reports of burglary and criminal mischief complaints, where the victims were the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., Pacific Telecom Inc., other businesses, and government agencies.
