Teno to sign NMC College Month Proclamation

April has been designated by the President of the United States as National Community College Month, and here in the CNMI, Gov. Pete P. Tenorio is scheduled to sign the Northern Marianas College Month Proclamation on Thursday, March 23, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. at the Governor’s Conference Room on Capitol Hill.

Carl Pogue, KRNM Radio station manager and chair of the 2000 College Month, announces the following activities for the month, highlighted by the 19th Charter Day Anniversary Celebration to be held on Saturday, April 15, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.:

April 1st – Forbidden Island hike for NMC students, staff, faculty, friends and families. Meet at the Botanical Garden parking lot at 9:00 a.m.

April 8th – Tinian day trip for NMC staff, faculty, families and friends. Tour the Tinian campus and get to meet the Tinian campus staff and faculty. Tour the island of Tinian with stops at the Blow Hole, Bomb Pits, Taga Stones, etc. Meet at the dock at 7:30 a.m. to catch the 8:00 a.m. ferry.

April 15th – Charter Day festivities from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to take place at the field by the new gym. Food, entertainment (dancers, live bands), sports competitions, hut building contest, dunking booth, State of the College Address, etc.

April 17th through the 28th- NMC Open Houses: Students from public and private schools and the general public are invited to see first hand what the college has to offer. Contact Janice Tenorio at 234-3690, Extension 1524.

April 19th – Educators Roundtable Forum at the Multipurpose Center in Susupe, Doors open at 6:30 p.m., discussions start at 7:00 p.m.. An opportunity for educators from the grade schools on up to gather and swap ideas, and express concerns about educational issues in the CNMI.

April 22nd – Talofofo hike for NMC students, staff, faculty, friends and families. Meet at the Capitol Hill post office parking lot at 8:00 a.m.

April 22nd – NMC Scavenger Hunt for students, staff, friends and families. Meet at the Bank of Hawaii parking lot in Puerto Rico at 1:00 p.m.

April 29th – NMC Golf Tournament at Coral Ocean Point. Tee off at 12:00 p.m. Appreciation picnic and awards ceremony to follow at 6:00 p.m. at Coral Ocean Point.

This year’s College Month theme is “NMC, Helping People Today… For A Better Tomorrow.”
