To Mrs. Lutu’s Class
Thank you so very much for the wonderful letters and drawings. I really enjoyed them and was very impressed with how nice some of you write. I am so sorry for taking so long to write back. It is always very hard to find time to write here in Iraq. A lot of you asked me if I have a weapon, yes I do but the Army trains me real good how to use it and when to use it. A lot of you asked if I know how to fight; you can ask Mrs. Lutu that. She is my big sister.
A lot of people wonder why us soldiers have to be here in Iraq. I will tell you why. There are a lot of bad guys here. But there are more good people and good kids your age that need help to be free like you are. Kids here were not allowed to learn in schools like you or play like you. Especially the girls. We are here to help give them a better way of life and to stop all the bad guys.
Being a soldier is not easy. It takes a lot of hard work and smart people. You have to always do your best and understand that teamwork helps you to be the best. Enjoy the wonderful ways of Saipan for me, because I wish I were there, too. Always be proud of where you are from. I am always proud to say that I am an islander soldier in the U.S. Army fighting for my country, my family, and my home. Take care and be good to your teacher. Pay attention when she is teaching so you can be very smart.
