USNS Concord (T-AFS 5) returned to Guam on Feb. 8 after supporting Operation Unified Assistance.

Under the leadership of Mike Murphy, the ship’s captain, and Cmdr. Patrick McCabe, officer in charge, the crew delivered 1.6 million lbs of rice, water, medical supplies and other items to tsunami victims in South Asia. A total of 555 pallets of goods were transported to the region.

Concord left Guam on Dec. 30 and joined forces with USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) Carrier Strike Group and USS Essex (CV-9) Expeditionary Strike Group.

Concord, which is forward deployed to Guam, is one of the Military Sealift Command’s six combat stores ships and is part of the Naval Fleet Auxiliary Force. Military Sealift Command is the transportation provider for the Department of Defense, with the responsibility of providing strategic sealift and ocean transportation for U.S. military forces.

The ship has a crew of more than 120 people.
