Missing home

I lived in the Marianas for 12 years, nine on Rota. I am now living in Las Vegas, hopefully to one day return to what I consider home.

Appreciate what you have when you have it. The mainland is not all that I even remember it to be. Life is very difficult here. That is not to say that Rota was not difficult at times, but like they say “The grass is always greener on the other side.” I miss Rota, my friends there, what I consider my community and my family. For truly it is the friendly island compared to many other places in the world. I miss the ocean, the quiet times we had, my students who became part of my family and I.

I will never again strive to reach toward the other side of the fence, for truly there is no real green grass there, it is brown and not good to eat. Thank you for letting me share my feelings of the place I can only call “home!” I am also thankful that the Saipan Tribune is online. When I am truly homesick, I go on line and read the newspaper from home.
