NMC staff gets representation
All sectors within Northern Marianas College will soon have representation on the NMC Board of Regents, with the adoption of a policy yesterday that allows the inclusion of a staff member in the policy-making body.
The staff regent will join the faculty and student regents as honorary members of the NMC Board of Regents. He or she will serve for one year commencing May 1.
Like the two other honorary regents, the staff regent will be recognized and seated with board members during meetings. He or she will receive all materials presented to the regents and can participate in the discussion of issues.
But the staff regent cannot make or second motions. He or she will have only a non-binding advisory vote.
“This is part of our efforts to promote participation in the decision-making process in the college,” said NMC president Tony Deleon Guerrero, who recommended the creation of the Staff Senate after he was appointed college president last year.
“We wanted to ensure that all the different sectors are represented in the Board of Regents and other policy-making bodies, such as the College Council,” he said.
The current members of the NMC Board of Regents are chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds, vice chair Margarity Olopai-Taitano, treasurer Galvin S. Deleon Guerrero, and regents Abelina Cing Cabrera, Eloise A. Furey, Elaine H. Orilla, and Jose Sablan.
Danny O. Wyatt is the honorary faculty representative and Agatha Ketebengang is the honorary student representative.
