Stick to your business

Dr. Jesus Camacho, there you go again. I sent a Letter to the Editor one time admiring you and here I am again, sending another one admiring you more. I admire you for attempting to sound like an auditor analyzing the financial statement of the CNMI, comparing taxes and revenues for the past three years, trying hard to sound like you know what you are talking about.

Why don’t you just stick to your business, which is education rather than spread misleading raw information lacking consideration of other figures in the CNMI financial statement? Come on. The governor’s leadership is not only based on finances. Granting that yes, the economy is a major consideration but your perspective is microscopic. Think of the CNMI as a part of the global community where the economy has globally gone down. Are we the only one suffering from economic downturn? Think of the mainland U.S.A. that is in the red for BILLIONS of dollars. Think of Japan, Germany, France, even California that was once ranked No. 6 in the list of the biggest economies in the world. Every country, big or small, has suffered from the 9/11, the SARS, the wars, terrorism. The economic crisis is not just happening here. Unless you are a hermit, you wouldn’t know that it’s happening all over the world.

I don’t admire you anymore. But I partly admire Dr. Thomas D. Arkle Jr., whose analysis is far more objective. He does not foretell Doomsday. He offers solutions and objectively present what he thinks we must do to help turn around our situation. That is what our thinking should be. It is so easy to point fingers, to criticize, to demean, to spit disparagement. But great is the man who rises up in the midst of crisis. Whose persistence is consistent, who stands up after a fall, who takes the beating but beats back when necessary. That is the man that I admire. Our governor, whose intention has always been for the people.

Lots of people pretend to know yet cannot offer an alternative. Lots of people emphasize the Dark Side of issues, simply because they cannot see the light. We are all in this island and those who have no opportunity to go anywhere else need the support of those who know. They do not need demagogues. They need real leaders, those whose intentions are good and who keep the optimism up. Please, Dr. Camacho, stop beating us up. You are not even a part of the island, so shut up, or put up! Do not cast upon the island your frustration for not being chosen to be the president of NMC. If your intentions are good, then provide alternatives. Stop being an Angel of Doom. We had too much of that already. We need optimism, hope, leadership, persistence, bright ideas. All rolled up and embodied in Gov. Juan N. Babauta. He still has my vote!!!
