Four local bomb disposal experts are now certified trainers for preparedness to incidents of weapons of mass destruction, after recently completing special training at the Department of Homeland Security.

The four includes Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David, Regino Celes, John Sablan, and Simon Manacop. All four are members of the DPS’ Explosives Response Team.

The four went to Aniston, Alabama, for a two-week training on terrorism preparedness. The courses they completed include weapons of mass destruction incident command training, law enforcement protection measure, and hands-on training.

After completing those courses, they were certified as trainers by the Homeland Security department, according to David.

“If anything [WMD incident] happens in Saipan, we’ve got know what agencies are needed,” David said.

The four underwent “table-top” exercises, coordinating responses to a hypothetical WMD scenario.
