KagES teacher bags ‘Who’s Who’ nomination
Kagman Elementary School 5th grade teacher Fasefulu R. Tigilau has been nominated to this year’s edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. This is Tigilau’s first nomination to the prestigious publication.
Tigilau was selected for this honor because, according to Parke H. Davis, chairman for National Academic Affairs, he has made a difference in the life of one of his former students, who also was invited and recognized for excellence in either Who’s Who Among American High School Students, Who’s Who Among American High School Students—Sports Edition, or The National Dean’s List, the most prestigious publications in the nation honoring the best and brightest high school and college students and student athletes.
Tigilau was born and raised in American Samoa where he took up an associate degree in Liberal Arts. He took his bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the University of Hawaii, Manu’a.
Davis said that only 5 percent of the nation’s teachers are honored in each edition of Who’s Who and less than 2 percent are included in more than one edition.
“Students are clearly sending you a message of how special you are,” said Davis in a letter sent to Tigilau last Feb. 16, adding that his nomination is a tribute bestowed on very few teachers. “As you read this letter and review your data, please know that we at Who’s Who are applauding you for a job well done,” said Davis.
Tigilau started teaching at the Manu’a High School in 1988. In 1991, he moved to the Tafuna High School in American Samoa. He moved to Saipan to teach, thinking that he would not be staying long. He has been teaching in the CNMI for 13 years now.
He taught at Marianas High School for 10 years then transferred to KagES where he said he has found fulfillment in his life.
“It’s a tough job but I am enjoying it,” said Tigilau, who added that the nomination is an honor not only for him but also for KagES and its students, to whom he owes this nomination.
