On the first day of my Saipan visit on Dec. 17 last year, I had the misfortune to break two bones in my leg while walking along a footpath outside the Hyatt.

Through your newspaper, I would like to thank the Commonwealth Health Center medical staff for the care and attention I received from the time of my arrival at the Emergency Room through till next morning when surgery was performed on my leg.

I cannot speak too highly of all concerned, especially Dr. Austin. His work has been greatly admired by my doctor and others of the medical profession here in Bundaberg where I live.

This was my very first surgical experience, and, at age 76, I was very apprehensive about it all, until my fears were quickly allayed by the friendly and competent staff of the hospital, and I am very pleased that I opted to stay instead of returning home. I could not have received better treatment anywhere.

I must also thank the ambulance attendants and Fire Service personnel who were marvelous at the scene of the accident, and also the unknown passerby who stopped and alerted them on his mobile phone.
