The Big League Pirates received a little divine intervention on Thursday night, as they escaped a 9-2 deficit to the Ol’ Aces and left Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field without a loss—for now.

The foul weather may have had a part in the postponement of the evening contest at the premier diamond in Saipan, as two blocks of lights went out during the middle of the second inning.

Saipan Little League Baseball Association president Joe Salas was on hand during the dimming and relayed to the players and fans that the umpires had deemed the conditions unplayable. According to Salas, the game will be resumed from the point it was halted following the completion of the regular season.

“It was just too dark for the kids to play, and the regulations state that there must be a certain amount of light if there is going to be any night games,” he said.

Though the game was still playable with all of the high wind, conditions took a turn for the worst when a section of lights in the outfield suddenly went out along with a bank of lights behind home plate.

Pending the resolution of the lighting array, issue, the regular season of Big League baseball is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, April 26, at 6pm.
