Powerhouse San Antonio Sixers I continued to push strong in the ongoing Island-wide Village Youth Basketball League, adding another win to its corner with a 59-53 victory over the Tanapag Young Warriors Thursday night at the Tanapag Basketball Court.

San Antonio came ready to play, playing tough defense in the early goings while leaning on the hot hands of Brian Chan at the offensive end to go up by 13 points after just eight minutes of action, 19-6. Chan was hitting everything he threw at the hoop, finishing the opening quarter with 13 points.

Sixers I carried over the momentum to the second period and ballooned their lead to 25 points after limiting their opponents to three field goals again, while pumping in another 18 points for a commanding 37-12 halftime cushion.

The Young Warriors finally got going at the start of the second half and outscored San Antonio, 15-12, to inch closer.

Douglas Dillay and Gerome Mira then fueled a furious charge in the closing minutes that closed the gap and placed pressure on their opponents.

Dillay scored all of his eight points in the final eight minutes, while Mira punched in the Warriors’ final eight points. However, their push came a little too late as Sixers I still went home with a “W” on hand.

Mike Eclevia led San Antonio with 16 points, including three big baskets in the fourth period, while Chan and Brian Ajoste contributed 15 and eight points.

Mira finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Young Warriors while Ike Aldan worked for 12 points.

Sixers I 59—Eclevia 16, Chan 15, Ajoste 8, Del Rosario 4, Flores 4, Aquino 2, Cabrera 2, Kintz 2.

Young Warriors 53—Mira 19, Aldan 12, Dillay 8, Garde 4, Repeki 4, C. Norita 2, J. Norita 2, Magofna 2.

Scoring by quarters: 19-6, 37-12, 49-27, 59-53.

Referees: Jonathan Tenorio and Jovie Omar.
