Title game ticket up for grabs tonight
Pennant champion Toyota Prius is currently in the BANMI 25-and-under Basketball League championship game, and will know who they will play after the Ghasias 7-Kings and Ulloa’s slug it out tonight at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
What started as a seven-team affair will be cut down to just two teams after tonight, with the winner securing the final title game slot and the loser settling for a respectable third place finish.
Ulloa’s took the two regular season meetings between the two squads, however, Ghasias has caught the eyes of many by doing what they did last year—put up better performances in the playoffs.
The 7-Kings entered the playoffs as the sixth seed, but didn’t play the way their regular round record indicated as they opened with an upset over third seed San Antonio Wildcats, then stunned defending champion SaipanCell-NMC Hoopaholics before falling to Prius.
Ulloa’s, meanwhile, got off to a different start in the playoffs, dropping to the loser’s bracket with a defeat at the hands of the Garapan Rollers. The team then kept their title hopes alive by eliminating the Wildcats before avenging their loss and beating the G-Rollers Friday night.
Tip off tonight is at 6:30pm.
The winner faces Prius on Wednesday.
Prius can call it a season by winning Wednesday’s bout. A defeat would result in a winner-take-all match on Friday.
