Police arrested a man over the weekend for allegedly assaulting a woman in Garapan sometime last month.

The suspect, 25-year-old Hongyang Zhu, allegedly punched and kicked a woman while they were inside a room at the Bencam Building in Garapan in the early morning hours of May 18.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David said the suspect also broke the woman’s cell phone when she attempted to call the police. He said the suspect and the victim are not related.

Following a police investigation, Superior Court associate judge Juan T. Lizama issued an arrest warrant against Zhu last Thursday. On Saturday, police caught Zhu in Garapan.

David said the suspect remained in custody until yesterday. The court imposed a $10,000 bail for Zhu’s temporary release, he added.
