The Commonwealth Election Commission, together with the Office of the Public Auditor, will be conducting training for prospective election workers for the Nov. 5, 2005 general election.

Individuals who were recommended by their respective recognized political parties who wish to serve in this year’s general election must attend the training session in order to be qualified for appointment as an election worker. There are three dates set for the training in each senatorial district.

On Thursday, June 23, 2005, training for Saipan’s election workers at will be held at 6pm at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi Purpose Center in Susupe, Saipan.

Rota’s election workers will receive training at 6pm on Monday, June 27, 2005, at the Northern Marianas College campus.

Training for Tinian’s election workers will be held at the Northern Marianas Campus at 6pm on Wednesday, June 29, 2005.

All individuals whose names were submitted to the Election Commission by the recognized political parties are encouraged to attend the training on the dates and venues established. Individuals whose names were not submitted by the recognized political parties but wish to attend the training are also invited to attend. However, since space and training materials are limited, those individuals who were recommended by the recognized political parties will be given first priority.

The Northern Mariana Islands election law provides that individuals must receive training and certification in election procedures, ethics, tasks, and responsibilities prior to being assigned or appointed to perform the duty of election worker. Moreover, the Commission will only appoint election workers to the election precinct in which they are registered to vote.

Anyone having any question about these training sessions is encouraged to call the Election Commission at 664-VOTE or the Public Auditor’s Office at 322-6481. (PR)
