With the recent success of the CNMI delegation to the Masters baseball tournament on Guam earlier in the year, the Saipan Major League is currently working on creating a masters league that will serve as a venue for players above the age of 35 years to see action and prep for upcoming international competitions.

This according to SML official Tony Rogolifoi, who said a general membership meeting is being organized and interested players are encouraged to take part in the meeting.

Rogolifoi said players must notify officials of their interest as team rosters will be organized by league organizers.

“The officials are going to finalize the roster for each team,” Rogolifoi said during an earlier interview. “This is to balance out the competition. We don’t want one team to be the powerhouse and dominate all the time.”

Officials anticipate at least enough players to form four teams, however, if possible, more teams will be formed.

Rogolifoi said depending on how quickly the league can be organized, players can possibly see action by the end of the month, however, no date has been set in stone yet.

Rogolifoi added that performances in the league, which is expected to be an annual event, will serve as a key role in selecting members of the CNMI team to an upcoming masters tournament in Australia this November.

The date and time of the meeting has yet to be confirmed and will be announced at a later date. (Shan Seman)
