Four exquisite wines were featured during Thursday night’s 3rd Wine Rally held at the Pacific Islands Club Pool Bar and attended by different hotels, bars and restaurant officials and bartenders.

Pacific Wine and Spirits held the Wine Rally as part of its commitment to develop an innovative way to educate restaurant and bar service staff on the several aspects of wine, including its origins, composition, descriptions and technology.

The four wines featured last Thursday night were Bottega Prosecco, Bottega Fragolino, Antonin Santa Cristina and Antinori Toscana.

Bottega Prosecco is a pale yellow sparkling wine with fine, continuous bubbles, making the wine light and dry. Bottega Fragolino is derived from the Fragola grape, often known as the Uva Americana. The wine has a “pronounced flavor of strawberries,” where it got its name.

Antonin Santa Cristina is a red wine from Tuscany that is 90 percent Sangiovese and 10 percent Merlot taste. Antinori Toscana is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.

Marketing manager Orleyn Tabucanon led the event with PowerPoint presentation and fun games for the members. She said the annual Wine Rally is a competition among Saipan’s food and beverage establishments.

She said the winners in this competition would have the opportunity to fly to Napa Valley on Sept. 25 and visit the wineries of Robert Mondavi, Opus One, Van Asperen, Rodney Strong and Blackstone.

The establishments participating in the rally are Aqua Resort Club, Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach, Hafa Adai Beach Hotel, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Marianas Resort and Spa Hotel, Hotel Nikko Saipan, Pacific Islands Club, Saipan Grand Hotel, and Tony Roma’s.
