The Marianas Visitors Authority, together with the Mayors Office of Saipan, Chamolinian Cultural Village, Pacific Development Inc, 2005 Liberation Day Committee members, and traditional dancers visited Nagoya, Japan to be a part of this popular event. Located in the 16th district of Nagoya City, the 7th Nippon Domannaka Matsuri provides a great promotional opportunity for the CNMI to generate awareness of our island hospitality, culture, and heritage.
A total of 175 teams, with approximately 20,000 performers, and more than 2 million spectators enjoyed the festival.
The Nippon Domannaka Matsuri organizers thanked the CNMI team for their performances made on stage and their participation in the parade. They stated this during the awarding ceremony as the CNMI’s traditional performance clinched the excellent performance award.
“We are pleased to receive such prestigious recognition for our cultural traditions. Fostering cultural exchange programs in Japan have been a way to market the CNMI effectively. We are sure that our relationship with the people of Nagoya and the organizers of the Domannaka Matsuri Festival will only grow to be beneficial for our islands tourism industry,” said MVA managing director Vicky Benavente.
