A man who insisted on working out his romantic relationship with his former sweetheart on his birthday landed in jail for allegedly violating a Superior Court order preventing him to have contact with the woman.

Police arrested 59-year-old Juan DLG. Manalo in Koblerville. Police said Manalo admitted knowledge about a standing court order preventing him to have contact with the victim.

Police detective Christopher Leon Guerrero charged Manalo with assault and battery, disturbing the peace, criminal contempt and interfering with a domestic violence report.

Associate Judge Ramona Manglona yesterday imposed a $100,000-bail on Manalo. Before Manalo’s arrest, he had been out on bail after posting $50,000-property and $1,000-cash bonds, in connection with another criminal case.

The judge appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Manalo in the court proceedings. She set Manalo’s arraignment on Oct. 3.

In an affidavit, the detective said the victim was hanging clothes outside the house when Manalo suddenly appeared to her surprise. Manalo allegedly grabbed her and started asking her to work out their relationship.

The victim got scared and began crying, the detective said. Manalo insisted and reminded the woman of his birthday, but the woman kept on telling him to leave. The woman’s 4-year-old child witnessed the incident and began to cry, saying that he would help his mother.

The victim then allegedly told Manalo that she would call the police. Manalo asked her not to call the police because he would land in jail again. Police said the woman dialed 911 several times, but Manalo grabbed the phone and hung it up. The woman later managed to run outside and asked her neighbors for help. Police then responded to the scene.

The detective said Manalo was actually placed under house arrest when he went to see the victim. (John Ravelo)
