This was a good week for the Katrina relief fundraising effort of the Veterans of Foreign Wars on Saipan.

The VFW Saipan Post 3457 gave $1,000 to get things rolling, according to Post Commander Barry Hirshbein.

“Jill Derickson gave $300, Hard Rock Café $100 and Saipan Shipping $100. Friday night, at our Post POW/MIA Recognition ceremony, the Honorable Mayor [Juan B.] Tudela donated $500. Jane Mack and the employees of Coral Ocean Point have also pledged donations,” he said.

Hirshbein said the Post will also have a raffle/auction of items donated by MGM Inc., Aqua Resort Club, Saipan Grand Hotel, Manju Pandey Avon, Shirley’s Restaurant, D&Q, Coca Cola, Windsock Inc., PIC, PC Outlet, Fred Prosser and Joe Kaipat.

“We thank them all for their generous and quick response to this call for disaster relief. We still need more help. We have less than two weeks until the VFW fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 30. We are asking for monetary contributions and items or gift certificates to raffle.

“We can receive your donations after 4pm at the VFW Post Home located in the former California Hotel Building on Beach Road. You can also reach me by e-mail at cnmilaw@yahoo.com or phone at 236-0904. Please contribute to this important fundraising event. Many small donations can add up to make a big impact on the lives of those in need,” he said.
