Defending champion Mwaliyas remained on the winning track as the team notched its third win in as many chances in the ongoing 2005 World Organized Rocball High School League.

With Mwaliyas one-two punch of reigning most valuable player Pedro Iguel and Shane Yamada combining for hard hits, the team kept its perfect record by dumping newcomer Just For Fun last Thursday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

Mwaliyas got off on the right foot, taking the first set, 17-9, and increasing their lead in the overall tally by grabbing the second set, 16-7.

At that point, the team had a comfortable 33-16 advantage.

It was all Mwaliyas in the third set as the defending champions continued to roll with style en route to an easy 15-9 victory to extend their lead to 23 points, 48-25.

It seemed like Mwaliyas was going to juice out and close the match in regulation, however, Just For Fun was not ready to give in and gave a desperation charge that eventually extended the match.

Needing to win the fourth set to force o-kon, the Just For Fun players kept their focus and composure, and worked their way ahead of their opponents. The team surprised Mwaliyas and kept their hopes alive with a 16-11 win.

Mwaliyas, however, still had the upper hand, as they only needed to win one set in o-kon to end the match while Just For Fun had to win two sets because they trailed in the overall scoring.

Their push was quickly denied, though, as Mwaliyas rebounded and easily cruised to their third win with an 11-1 clincher.

Iguel was the game’s heavy hitter with 18 points courtesy of an ace, two goals, and five kees, while Yamada supported well with four kees, three aces, and a goal for 17 points.

Action resumes today as B-n-S battles Ochobu. B-n-S currently sits with a 2-0 win-loss card and will be looking to keep pace with Mwaliyas.
