The Division of Environmental Quality recently added reinforcement to its several environmental program, particularly in its coral reef education program.

DEQ public information officer Reina Camacho said the division welcomed Lihla Noori to the DEQ family last week. Camacho said Noori is not only joining DEQ but also the team from the Coastal Resources Management Office and the Division of Fish and Wildlife.

Noori will be working on improving and expanding current coral reef education and outreach efforts on Rota, as well as assisting with ongoing marine monitoring, watershed management activities and marine protected areas, said Camacho.

Camacho said the new officer would also be extending her helping hands to the DEQ Rota office for a period of at least two years. Noori has a bachelors degree in Environmental Studies and is currently working toward her masters in Experiential Education.

The public information officer said Noori’s experience in community development, grassroots conservation, and wilderness education would certainly be an asset to the environmental agency team.

Noori, said Camacho, has been proficient in island-style life, Marshallese language and culture because she had worked before with the Republic of Marshall Islands Environmental Protection Authority in Biodiversity Conservation, and in the outer island of Ebon Atoll as a WorldTeach volunteer.
