SANTA RITA, Guam—Military officials with U.S. Naval Forces Marianas and the Russian Federated Navy Pacific Fleet will hold a wreath-laying ceremony today at the War in the Pacific National Historical Park Asan Bay Overlook on Nimitz Hill to commemorate American and Japanese soldiers and island residents who died on Guam during World War II.

Rear Adm. Joe Leidig, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Marianas, and Vice Adm. Konstantin Sidenko, chief of staff and first deputy commander of Russian Federated Navy Pacific Fleet, will be conducting the ceremony.

The Russian navy is on island to take part in a bilateral humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and passage exercise with the U.S. Navy March 27-30 on and off the coast of Guam. This exercise is designed to increase interoperability between the two navies while enhancing the strong cooperative relationship between Russia and the United States and the two navies. (PR)
