Saipan enchants crew
“It’s my first time to visit Saipan and I’m looking forward to seeing the whole island,” said Max Dayanghirang, purser of USNS Guadalupe. Dayanghirang, who has been in the service for 27 years now, said he has heard a lot about the island as a tourist destination.
Some 91 crew including 68 civilians aboard the USNS Guadalupe will be here for a few days. The ship’s name is a shortened version of Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, considered a miraculous saint in Mexico. It is able to transport 108,000 barrels of marine diesel fuel and 72,000 barrels of jet fuel. Her delivery system includes three double probes to port and two single probes to starboard; a send-and-receive dry cargo station on each side of the vessel.
Along with her sister oilers, Guadalupe is part of the MSC’s Naval Fleet Auxiliary Force, which is part of the Navy’s larger Combat Logistics Support Force. The Guadalupe delivers petroleum, oil, and lubricants to Navy combat and support ships to allow them to stay at sea for long periods of time.
Guadalupe is one of approximately 130 ships in the worldwide fleet of MSC and considered one of the most comfortable ships ever built. Each member of the crew has a large private room.
