Due to a proposed legislative bill, the threat of increasing taxes on imported vegetables and fruits and the institutional commitment to promote local farmers and their produce, the NMC-CNMI Cooperative Research Extension and Education Service is offering a crop production course.

During the Fall 2000 Semester, which begins Aug. 21, Dr. Craig Smith, agronomist, and a CNMI vegetable specialist, will teach the course AG-181 Principles of Crop Production.

The three-credit course will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a Saturday Lab from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The course intends to help students, families and farmers learn how to successfully manage their gardens and increase their farm’s productivity. The course includes the proper methods and secrets of growing crops such as fruits, vegetables and other root crops. In addition, the course will teach students about compost production, weed control, air layering, insect control, and irrigation methods.

Everyone is welcomed to register for this agricultural course, as well as many other college courses that NMC has to offer this Fall Semester.
