DPS to have new impound yard
The Department of Public Safety will soon have a new facility for confiscated vehicles as the government begins soliciting bids from private companies for the project.
The new DPS Impound Yard/Maintenance and Repair Facility will be erected at the former Air Force Radar Tracking Station in Marpi. The project calls for the renovation of one of the old PACBAR buildings for the exclusive use of DPS.
The Department of Public Works said the scope of the work will be made available by its Technical Services Division to interested contractors on Monday.
DPW will hold a pre-bid conference on Thursday next week at the project site in Marpi, while sealed bids will be publicly opened on April 3.
The public works department assured participating contractors that bidding procedures will be in full compliance with the CNMI Procurement Regulations, although preference will also be given to local bidders as called for under a law signed in September last year.
According to DPW, a bid security of 15 percent of the bid amount must accompany any bid over $25,000. This security may come in the form of a certified check, cashier’s check or bid bond.
It added that surety companies must hold a certificate of authority from the US Secretary of the Treasury as an acceptable surety or other surety acceptable to the Attorney General.
“The bidder submitting the lowest responsive bid will be subject to a responsibility determination in conformance with the CNMI Procurement Regulations Section 3-301,” DPW said.
The new DPS impound yard and maintenance shop is expected to be completed 30 days after actual construction begins.
