Rota government officials have been talking with a Guam-based company to construct Rota’s first dialysis center by next year.

Rota congressman Crispin Ogo said local officials are working together to get the project started in two months.

“We’re now in phase three, meaning we’re talking now about the company’s proposal,” he said.

Guam-based JMI Medical System Inc. representatives reportedly presented its proposal to the Rota delegation last Tuesday.

“This project can be done in six months so we’re hoping to have it completed before end of 2005,” said Ogo, chairman of House Health and Welfare Committee.

Rota has received a total of $1.5 million funding to undertake the project.

“This is very good news to our patients. Our goal is to treat our patients right there,” he said.

Ogo said the facility would include six dialysis stations, including two back-up machines.

Rota earlier asked for $2 million for the project but Ogo agreed that $1.5 million would be enough to cover the project costs.

Rota senator Paul Manglona earlier said that the funding level “is workable.”
