A garment factory located on Navy Hill sustained severe damage after a fire broke out early yesterday morning.

No one was reported hurt in the Advance Textile fire that allegedly began early Thursday morning.

Responding firefighters indicated that the fire was reported at about 2am. Firefighters immediately responded to the scene, blocked off the area, and successfully contained the fire between 4-5am.

According to a Mr. Kim, general manager of Rifu Apparel Co., which leases the premises, the factory’s fabrics and garments were completely burned and destroyed.

“I cannot figure the damages right now. I need several days to figure it out,” he said during a telephone interview. “[But] I would say it’s more than $1 million.”

Kim said the fire was reported by the on-duty security guard.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined as of press time as authorities were still at the site conducting investigation. The area was still smoking as of 4:30pm.

An official report regarding the incident has yet to be released.
