Jess Castro finally rested the monthly championship of the Saipan Golfers Association following unsuccessful attempts the past 10 months. Castro took the title after winning the October Ace of the Month Tournament held last Nov. 7 at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort golf course.

The SGA president carded a net score of two-under 70 to finish tied at first place with John Matsumoto. But Castro beat Matsumoto via scorecard tiebreak on the 8th hole to take home the monthly plum.

Matsumoto had to settle for second place, while Rick Kautz captured third place with his one-under par 71.

Melvin Sablan came out the winner of the two longest drive competitions after outdistancing everyone on the 2nd and 14th holes. Kautz, meanwhile, secured closest to the pin honors on the 3rd hole, while Matsumoto got the prize on the 7th hole. Castro and Larry Guerrero stuck the landings on the 13th and 17th holes.

SGA would also like to inform its members that its November Ace of the Month Tournament and Turkey Shoot would be held this coming Sunday, Nov. 14, at the Coral Ocean Point golf course.

Tee time is set at 7:15am but participants are requested to show up 30 minutes earlier for pairings and a short briefing. (Mark Rabago)
