Over 30 teams from around Micronesia will duke it out in the 3rd Annual PACRIM Youth Goodwill Basketball & Volleyball Tournament that would be held from Nov. 21 to 27 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The sports festivities begin with an opening ceremony at 1pm this Sunday at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field facility.

No less than Gov. Juan N. Babauta will be delivering the opening remarks. Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela and Department of Community and Cultural Affairs secretary Juan L. Babauta will also attend the kick-off.

Youth Affairs Office special assistant Florence Kirby said that teams from the Marshall Islands, Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan will see action in the six-day basketball and volleyball competition.

She said that the annual event would bring together under one roof youth from around the Micronesian region.

“Our objective is to bring our different island kids together and share their commonalities with one another. They may come from different places, but they all share the same interests and same island culture,” she said.

Defending champions in the basketball competition is Saipan’s Ol’Aces, while Shag II and Chikas, also from Saipan, are the reigning titlists in the men’s and women’s seniors volleyball, respectively. O’Yea’s from Merizo and Small, But Terrible and Terrific from Marshall Islands are the defending champions in the junior volleyball boys and girls ranks.

The Youth Affairs Office, PREL, Workforce Investment Agency, Karidat’s House of Manhoeben, and DCCA’s Division of Sports and Recreation are the sponsors of the 3rd Annual PACRIM Youth Goodwill Basketball & Volleyball Tournament.
