The Century Insurance Co. Lt. donated $1,000 yesterday to the Saipan Chamber of Commerce in support of its “Cash for Trash” program.

CIC business development manager Jack Muna and CIC vice president Andy del Mundo presented the check yesterday morning at the Saipan Chamber of Commerce office in Garapan.

Chamber officials present to receive the donation included recently elected SCC board director Harry Blalock, SCC treasurer Michael Johnson and SCC president Alex Sablan. “We donated this cash because we want to support this worthwhile project. It’s a good program for the community and for the people here on the island,” Muna said.

The “Cash for Trash” project gathers non-profit oriented groups and individuals who select road sides of their choice on Saipan and clean the entire area. Several of the groups are elementary, middle school, and high school groups. The project is hoped to give opportunities for children to learn more about their environment and to be more active with the beautification efforts. The program is also seen as a way to teach children about time management, organization, communication and social interaction.

Century Insurance is actively involved in community projects, and has also sponsored sports tournaments, and participated in fundraising projects for the Red Cross-NMI chapter.

“We’re always be here to support the community in any way we can,” Muna said. (Marconi Calindas)
