NMC drafts new master plan
Northern Marianas College has drafted a new strategic master plan for 2006 to 2010, setting updated goals and formulating a new vision for the college.
NMC is keeping its eyes set on luring more foreign students, as evident in the proposed vision which reads: “[NMC] will be a premier learning environment in the Pacific Asia Region by providing outstanding educational programs and services….”
In its list of objectives, NMC vowed to increase enrollment by investing in a marketing plan that focuses on recruitment of local, regional, and international students.
The college also set goals with regard to the various aspects of its operations, including technology, financial resources, facilities, human resources, student learning and success, workforce, and accreditation.
The master plan was presented yesterday to government and business representatives, who were given an opportunity to offer suggestions to improve NMC’s vision.
The discussion participants urged the college to make the vision time-oriented and less general. NMC was also urged to place more emphasis on local culture and include language addressing workforce needs and social responsibility.
Among the participants were Saipan Chamber of Commerce Alex Sablan, Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands president Lynn Knight, Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Vicky Benavente, Immigration director Antonio Sablan, and Public Health secretary James Hofschneider.
