Charges filed vs man accused of stealing car
A man who allegedly stole another’s vehicle put himself in further trouble after he figured in a road accident on Saipan.
Police also discovered that Marco S. Fitial did not have in his possession a valid driver’s license when he was allegedly caught driving another’s vehicle illegally about two weeks ago.
The Attorney General’s Office filed 11 charges against Fitial, who allegedly took the 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse of one Esperanza C. Florentino.
Assistant attorney general Grant Sanders accused Fitial of unlawfully taking the vehicle “with the intent to permanently deprive the owner of title or possession of the car.”
While driving the car last Jan. 22, Fitial allegedly figured in a vehicular mishap that resulted in damage to another vehicle. He allegedly sped off and fled the scene of the accident.
“[Fitial] fled from the police when he was ordered to stop by police officers using hand gestures and flashing lights on marked police vehicles,” Sanders said.
Sanders filed the following charges against Fitial: theft of vehicle; fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer; two counts each of reckless driving, accidents, speeding, and failure to carry an operator’s license; and failure to stop a motor vehicle on request by a police officer.
