UFO turns over donations for shipment to Manila
The United Filipino Organization turned over the159 boxes it collected during its monthlong “Sagip Kababayan” donation drive to CTSI Logistics last Jan. 22 for shipment to the Philippines to help victims of the recent typhoons that struck the country.
The project was originally called “Sagip Kapamilya,” inspired by the “Kapamilya” slogan of ABS-CBN Foundation, the public service arm of ABS-CBN broadcasting network in Manila. However, due to tax and duty issues in clearing the container, the UFO decided to consign the donations instead to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, said Joven Cruz, project coordinator for CTSI Logistics.
This decision was based on the suggestion of CTSI Manila to reduce the expenses for this project. Bob Maravillas of Asialink in Manila will document and deliver the relief goods to the DSWD office in Manila.
CTSI Logistics, is the official freight forwarder of this project. The boxes were donations for the victims of Supertyphoon Winnie and Typhoon Yoyong that hit the island of Luzon in the Philippines late last year that killed thousands of people.
During the turnover ceremony UFO and CTSI thanked the initiative of Juliet Magno of CGas of Saipan Industrial Gas, who did the ceremonial locking of the container. They said that the event would not have happened without the assistance of CTSI officers Rene Magalong, Raymond Chu, Jojie Silva, Argie Buensalido, and Lito Austria.
UFO extends its appreciation to the following organizations under UFO: VisMinda, Samahan ng Manggagawang Filipino, Cabalen, Bayani Association, Samahang Ilokano at Pangasinense, Movers (Leon Agda Jr.), MDX, SIR, CNMI Power and the CNMI Filipino Community. The group also appreciated the assistance of NAMFREL, SARS Ltd. and KAMPIL.
The group also recognized individuals and private companies that supported the drive: CGAS, RP Construction, McDonald’s, Marianas Electronics, Mariana Resort and Spa, and Pacific Trading Co.
