Over two weeks after the fatal vehicular accident at the Chalan Monsignor Guerrero highway, a pickup truck drove past the highway’s gutter and ended by a sloping roadside early yesterday morning, which resulted in the vehicle nearly splitting in half.

An ambulance rushed to the scene to pick up an unidentified man who appeared to be injured.

The man wore dark pants and bright-colored shirt and could be seen lying on the road as the first police vehicle arrived at the scene just past the Joenel’s Auto Repair Shop at past 6am.

The vehicle, a red Ford truck with plate no. ADH-142, went into the roadside near the Dandan-bound lane of the highway. It went past the wide gutter adjacent to the highway and then to a sloping boony area.

Another vehicle, a gray pickup truck, could be seen on the highway as one police vehicle waited for other emergency responders to arrive at the scene. It was not clear if that vehicle was involved in the road mishap.

Policemen who responded to the accident scene refused to comment about the incident, referring inquiries to Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David. The Saipan Tribune attempted to contact David and DPS commissioner Santiago Tudela, but they could not be reached by telephone and radio yesterday.

DPS officers wearing Correction officers’ uniform also responded to the scene.
