Nobody bats like Sakisat

All is good in District 9, as the D-9ers have not only been crowned champions of the Island Wide Fast Pitch Softball League, but they also boast the biggest hitter of the league—statistically speaking— in shortstop Mel Sakisat.

Before the start of his final game of the season against the Islanders, Sakisat led the league in four out of the six batting categories. By the time the season was complete, he took five, as the clutch-hitting slugger finished off with 28 runs scored, 14 doubles, 10 homeruns, and 41 runs batted in. The only thing that the all-star softballer missed out on was sole ownership of the lead in triples and batting average.

Sakisat had to settle for a tie in triples made with Proa star Jester Garcia, as both finished the season with six. Sakisat’s 35-for-59 season-long performance at the plate netted a batting average of .593, which was also good enough for second behind the Islanders Jeff Cabrera (.641).

While Sakisat still had a chance at Garcia’s mark in the season finale, his mission to dethrone Cabrera was foiled as the batting average leader did not show up to the park when their teams went head-to-head.

Sakisat found similar success in the Island Wide Slow Pitch Softball League, as he knocked in an unmatched 75 runs. His closest competition was Payton Sakuma, who finished the season with 55. The slugger tied Frank Camacho for a share of the lead in homeruns with 24, fell just one run shy of J.R. Suel’s 40 runs scored, and finished the season with the league’s third-highest batting average at .821.
