The Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association will be hosting the 2005 Coconut Classis Tennis Tournament beginning next weekend at the American Memorial Park tennis courts.

The Coconut Classic will be held in three consecutive days starting on Saturday, Feb 19, and ends on Monday, Feb. 21.

Newly elected NMITA president Eli Buenaventura is excited about the event and has promised participants a competitive and fun three days of tennis under the Saipan sun.

The events featured in the Coconut Classic are men’s singles, men’s over 40 singles, women’s singles, and mixed doubles.

The junior singles events, meanwhile, are the boys’ 18-and-under, boys’ 14-and-under, boys’ 10-and-under, girls’ 18-and-under, girls’ 14-and-under, and girls’ 10-and-under.

The Coconut Classic has no entry fee, but participants must pay the $15 NMITA membership fee in support of the NMI national tennis program. The fee entitles members to two free entries to NMITA tournaments.

Registration and payment should be turned in at Las Vegas Golf & Tennis store in Garapan. Checks must be made payable to the Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association.

The deadline for entries is Sunday, Feb. 13, 5pm. Draws will be held at the AMP tennis courts right after the closing time for entries. The tournament draw will then be made available beginning Feb. 17 at Las Vegas Discount Golf & Tennis and the AMP bulletin board.

Buenaventura also reminded players that they should check their draws prior to the start of the tournament on Feb. 17.
