MPLA board takes hands off staff work
Aware of the confusion created by conflicting requests, the Marianas Public Lands Authority board of directors has resolved to avoid direct contact with MPLA personnel regarding work assignments and priorities.
The MPLA board adopted the policy at a special meeting on Rota on Monday, in view of concerns over some board members issuing assignments that conflict with those made by another board member or the commissioner.
Under the new rule, individual board members may still request that certain work assignments be given to MPLA personnel and staff.
However, all such requests and follow-up must be directed to the MPLA commissioner, who will institute all work assignments and set priorities for all activities at the agency.
“It is imperative that the commissioner be aware of and participate in all work assignments given to MPLA personnel and staff in order to effectively set priorities and maintain efficiency and harmony among MPLA personnel and staff,” read a portion of the policy.
“In order to avoid confusion and to ensure an efficient work schedule among MPLA personnel and staff, and to further keep the commissioner fully informed of all priorities and assignments, the board of directors desire to set a policy that all work assignments and priority requests be made through the commissioner, and that board members avoid having direct contact with MPLA personnel and staff for such purposes,” the policy further stated.
