Guam Rev & Tax gets $47K from OIA

Guam Revenue and Taxation will receive $47,000 in technical assistance from the Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs to improve assessments and collections, it was announced recently.
The grant will enable the Tax Administration Advisory Services to train local officials to improve assessment and collection practices.
TAAS is a part of the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, Department of the Treasury. TAAS specializes in providing tax assistance to local governments.
“Gov. Camacho has told us that improving tax collections is one component of his overall strategy to improve Guam’s fiscal health,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Interior David B. Cohen. “We hope that this grant can provide effective support for those efforts.”
TAAS will provide instructors for on-site training scheduled to begin this month. The team of instructors will be supported by at least two Guam assistants. Other U.S.-affiliated insular governments may participate in the training if they choose to do so and can be reasonably accommodated.
The grant will be funded through the Office of Insular Affairs’ Technical Assistance Program, which is designed generally to help insular area governments address critical needs for which funding is not otherwise available. (PR)
